What to look for when purchasing a Quality Garden Shed

Useful Information : What to look for when purchasing a Quality Garden Shed

When purchasing a high quality Garden shed you should consider the following listed factors before making your selection.

  • Quality of Timber
  • Strength of Frame Work
  • General Engineering of the Building

Joinery Work:

Always look at the way the doors and windows are constructed, as these will be the first to deteriorate.

Windows:

Toughened glass should always be used, as ordinary horticultural glass is extremely dangerous especially with children around.

Roof and Roof Coverings:

The roof should be solid and strong and not made from man made material such as chipboard or OSB.  Use of high quality heavy roofing felt, as this will not tear or sag and will reduce maintenance in the future.  Or better still you could use a different roofing material such as Cedar Shingles.

Floor:

Make sure the underneath bearers are pressure treated.  Avoid chipboard, OSB and other sheet materials as these will rot prematurely.

Timber:

For timber Shed cladding, always look to use a red wood pine rather than the cheaper white wood spruce as it is less susceptible to knots falling out and therefore gives a better finish.

Timber from North European sources such as Finland and Sweden is often farmed much better and ecologically than the timber from Russia. The further north it comes from the slower the trees are grown therefore producing a denser timber which is less susceptible to moving, so your Garden Building will last longer.

Iron Mongery:

Ensure that all Iron Mongery is either galvanised, zinc plated or Brass.
