Garden Chalets

“A wooden dwelling with a sloping roof and widely overhanging eaves,” a Chalet is a much loved style of building up and down the gardens of Britain.

Enjoy drinks on the veranda and relax inside as the sun goes down or the weather cools. These buildings make perfect settings for al-fresco dining or indeed just as extra space.

Simply measure the space you have available, tell us your requirements and we will do the rest.

Delivery and Installation

Our experienced and professional fitters deliver and install all our buildings free of charge.

As our business is very much dependant on our reputation in providing an excellent product and service our customer care is exceedingly important to us and you will find that we very much pride ourselves on this. From design stage through to installation providing the best possible service is our number one priority.

Access to where you wish your building to be installed is never a problem to us as each building is designed and built to order which means that we can make the building in such a way that it can fit through restricted access areas and be installed exactly where the building is required.

Building Styles & Options

We offer a comprehensive range of standard sized Chalets available in either a pent or apex roofed design. You can then choose the eave height that you require and where you would like the doors and windows to suit you. One of the great services that we provide is that as we make each building to order we can produce none standard sizes and designs whenever and wherever required.

If you would like the doors for your Chalet on the side you will need to opt for a higher eave height.

Veranda and Roof Overhang

Create a stylish al fresco seating area by adding a veranda to your Chalet. Our veranda is 1.2m wide and is complimented by our roof overhang of the same width. If you prefer your Chalet without a veranda we add a 400mm roof overhang as standard, for both attractiveness and to protect the façade of your Chalet.

Our bespoke service means that we can build your Chalet with other veranda and roof overhang requirements , please discuss your ideas with us.

Cladding Options

Our timber cladding is machined from very high quality Redwood grown in North Sweden, close to the arctic circle. These slowly grown trees produce a much more dense and stable timber than others. Our buildings are clad in shiplap as standard but we also offer weatherboard cladding for a more rustic finish

Shiplap - (ex 19 x 125mm)

shiplap cladding profile to enhance the look of your building, give better adhesion properties for paints and we have introduced a capillary groove to reduce the risk of water ingress.

Weatherboard - (21>8 x 125mm)

Our weatherboard cladding is machined from the same high quality timber as the shiplap but gives a more rustic look to your building.

Door Options

Our standard Chalet doors are joinery made double doors, constructed from hemlock (which is a timber particularly suitable for doors as apart from being durable it is far less susceptible to movement and warping than other timbers traditionally used in doors). They are fully glazed with 4mm toughened safety glass and finished with the finest brass fittings.

Type of doors

Our bespoke service means you can choose whether you want a single or double door, or an extra door set for your building needs

Additional doors

You may wish to add additional doors to your Chalet especially if you are planning to split the building into different sections or to create a separate entrance.

Windows

The joiners in our workshop manufacture the windows to our own very high standards. They are glazed with 4mm toughened glass as a standard safety feature. Choose where to put your windows in your building or choose to have none and whether to make any opening windows. We can offer Georgian effect or velux as alternative styles.

Lining and Insulation

To create the perfect all-season retreat, increase comfort and decrease noise levels we can offer lining and insulation for your Chalet.

To insulate your building, it will be manufactured with a breathable paper membrane trapped between the studwork which acts as a moisture trap. We go on to fill the cavity with insulation. There are then 2 options for lining your Chalet:

Option 1

Cladding of 15mm matchboarding. We use this cladding for its robust and hardwearing finish so that it is suitable to hang shelves and hooks etc where required. It is also a very attractive finish and in keeping with the Chalet Style.

Option 2

Painted finished walls, using a channelled secret-nailed 15mm matchboarding. Giving a clean bright look and feel to your room.

Floor Insulation

We can also insulate your floor by adding a 50mm polystyrene insulator under your floorboards.

Base

All our buildings require a level solid base of the correct size. We offer a base service.

Show / Hide

Bases must be:

  • LEVEL
  • of the correct size
  • square i.e. have right angled corners

There are 3 options for bases:

1) Concretes slabs on a mortar bed – which are adequate in most cases but if you put concrete slabs on ground under which run tree roots or other vegetation then the slabs, over time, will start to uplift and can also, over time, start sinking into the ground.

2) A solid concrete base (which will include steel reinforcement within the mix) no less than 100mm deep is ideal.

3)A timber beam base – this is necessary in rare cases where the building is on a steep slope or to be built near trees with tree preservation orders on them.
The base should always be a minimum of 50mm out of the ground to prevent surface water or puddles affecting your building i.e. rotting it.
The size of the base needs to be the metric size of your building. For example, if you order a 8 x 10 chalet the metric size is 2.4 x 3.0 metres and this should be the size of the base. If the base is not built to the metric size then you will see the base around the building which is unsightly.

Bases for larger buildings and in particular garages need to be built to exact dimensions and drawings should be obtained from us before the base is laid.

Always get your garden building base laid by a professional. We supply a base service if you should require it.

Roof Coverings

Our standard roofing cover is an extreme wear heavy duty 35kg green mineralised felt. We also offer red and grey slate effect roofing tiles, very stylish cedar shingles or the environmentally sound and attractive green roof option.

Show / Hide

Cedar Shingles

We use only the finest quality Canadian Blue Label Cedar Shingles expertly tiled by our own skilled craftsmen to give a traditional finish which will 'silver' with age. They are expected to last 25-35 years.

Slate Effect

These individually laid synthetic slates finally bring nature and technology together providing the ultimate protection against UV rays, wind, hail and fire. This roofing product carries a 50 year limited warranty. Opt for a more traditional grey or terracotta for a different look which looks great with the lighter paint shades.

Green Roof

this layered, lightweight, vegetative roof improves the buildings thermal performance (cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter). A good natural sound insulator, significantly improves rainwater run-off and has added values in terms of promoting biodiversity and habitat as well as blending in with surroundings, particularly in built up areas. No need for weeding or deadheading.
