Building Sizes

Our Salthouse Studios are available in a range of sizes:

1.8 x 2.4m (6 x 8ft) to 6.0 x 6.0m (20 x 20ft)

Lining and Insulation

All of our Studios and Offices are fully lined and insulated (roof, walls and floor). This allows for year round use, increases comfort and decreases noise levels as well as finishing the building in a beautiful manner.

For the roof we have a 4 tier lining and insulation process; we insulate between the ply layer and the internal matchboard tongue and groove lining and finish the building with your choice of roofing material.

For the walls, we insulate your building, by trapping a breathable paper membrane between the studwork which acts a moisture trap. We go on to fill the cavity with insulation. There are then 2 options for lining your Studio:

Natural matchboard lining

We can line with our highest grade tongue and groove matchboarding (15mm) leaving a natural warm feel.

We can use a channeled, secret-nailed, tongue and groove matchboarding (15mm) with 3 coats of paint leaving a satin, off-white finish which achieves a bright, clean and airy look.

Underfloor Insulation

For the floor, we secure the insulation directly onto and underneath the floorboards for extra comfort.

Roof Coverings

Our standard roofing cover for the Salthouse Studio is heavy duty, 35kg green mineralised felt. We offer a Sedum roof as an alternative.

This layered, lightweight, vegetative roof improves the buildings thermal performance (cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter). A good natural sound insulator, significantly improves rainwater run-off and has added values in terms of promoting biodiversity and habitat as well as blending in with surroundings, particularly in built up areas. No need for weeding or deadheading.

Paint System

Crane Sheds and Summerhouses have worked closely with VALTTI to make this coating system available for your building. Our Valtti system is proven to be the best possible protection for exterior timber. Valtti is fully opaque and gives an exceptionally durable, extremely low maintenance, solid 4 coat finish. Our extensive colour range is inspired by nature and the soft neutral tones of traditional colonial buildings.

If our colours do not compliment your surroundings it is possible to match any colour at an extra charge.

Doors

Within our workshops, we house our own Joinery Works so we make the doors for our Studios. This ensures that the high quality that we demand is met and we can offer a bespoke service. Our doors are constructed from hemlock, which is a timber particularly suitable for doors as apart from being durable it is far less susceptible to movement and warping than other timbers traditionally used in doors. They are fully glazed and also double glazed using toughened safety glass and finished with solid brass fittings, a 5 lever mortise lock and draught excluders. You can opt for a double door.

Windows

We make our own windows within our Joinery Works to ensure quality. The Salthouse comes with a fully glazed front elevation and a fully glazed panel on each side to allow for maximum light and a contemporary feel. To the rear of the Salthouse is at least one opening fanlight for ventilation. All windows are double glazed using toughened safety glass. The fanlights have solid brass, lockable window fittings for added security and are fitted with draught excluders. You can add more window sets if you require them.

Cladding Options

Our timber cladding is machined from very high quality Redwood grown in North Sweden, close to the arctic circle. Because of the temperature, these slowly grown trees produce a much more dense and stable timber than others. The timber mill we partner and have very close links to is also FSC accredited like ourselves.

Shiplap - (ex 19 x 125mm)

The shiplap we use is particularly thick and has very few knots because of where we source it and how it grows. We plane our shiplap which gives a smooth surface finish which looks great painted.

Floor Options

Our standard and robust floorboards are set on closely spaced tanalised floor joists. If you are storing particularly heavy items or machinery we would recommend our heavy duty floor. The Studio floors already come fully insulated.

Electric Packs

For lighting and using any equipment in your building, you may wish to consider our electric pack. Professionally fitted by qualified electricians who take all the wiring to a consumer unit ready for you to connect to your electricity supply. Internal wiring will be fitted behind the internal lining. We can also supply your building with a heater.

Guttering

We can fit guttering around your Studio, including a downpipe. Guttering is available in black or white.

Options

You can personalise your Studio by creating extra rooms, adding extra doors. We will discuss your requirements with you.

Base

All our buildings require a level solid base of the correct size. We offer a base service.
